So on Saturday we woke up and took a 2 hour train ride to Florence, Italy. Here there was a lot to see and it was less crowded, we didn’t get to see a whole lot because we went there for very long and we had to stand in line for a while to get into one of the museums. When we arrived and got off the train it started to rain, and it poured for like half an hour, so we spent all that time underneath a tree in a beautiful park because we were not properly prepared for the weather!
We made it finally to a museum we wanted to get into but the line was super long, we decided to go ahead and wait in it because we REALLY wanted to see the statue inside. We stood in line for about 2 hours and made friends with a girl who was from Texas and just took a semester off of college to travel Europe with her best friend. Crazy I couldn’t do it, she is living out of a backpack and staying in hostels everywhere. Anyway we finally made it into the Museum and looked around; we were excited to see the most famous statue in the world, The Sculpture of David by Michelangelo! It’s a 17 foot tall marble sculpture made in 1504 by the Great Michelangelo himself. It took him 2 years to do and at the time he was only 26 years old! This is the most famous statue ever and when you see it you are just at awe. We turned the corner of the museum and froze when we got to see it. It’s just absolutely magnificent. Perfectly proportioned and detailed it was just super cool to get to see it! Almost one of my favorite things in our entire Italy trip!
We then ventured around and stumbled upon this Giant church! We had studied it a lot and didn’t realize it was even in Florence. The Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower, or simply the Duomo which was built in 1436, and is still the largest church built out of Brick and mortar in the world. It was GIANT and gorgeous! We didn’t get to go inside because they were reserving it for people since it was Easter weekend, tourists weren’t allowed! But we walked all around it!
Then the last thing we saw was the famous Bridge Ponte Vecchio located on the Arno River. This is a famous structure that has shops built on the sides of it held up by stilts. It was the only Bridge in Florence to have survived after WWII and it is very cool to see!
Florence was fun, I wish we would have had more time to explore, and there are a ton of things to see in the town we just didn’t get to all of them! But standing in line to see David was totally worth IT!!!!!!
