Italy Part Four: Venice

Oh Venice, well it was kind of a disappointment! But it was still super cool to see it and say that I have been there! We got up Easter Morning and said goodbye to Melissa and then took a train to Bologna where we then transferred over to a train to go to Venice, all together it was about a 5 hour train ride! But it went pretty quickly! The Train took us all the way out onto the island. From there we found our way to our hotel, which was perfect, a little expensive but that was because we booked it at the last minute. It has a double bed, and a twin bed then a very elaborate but tiny bathroom! With a tiny shower that had wall mounted spray nozzles and a heated towel rack, and even a body blow dryer (and yes I tried it) J

From there we basically just ventured around. We had a map but chose not to even look at it for a while, the island is so small we didn’t have a need to; we just got lost and then found where we were and got lost again! Lots of FUN! So we got to see the beautiful canals and all the boats in them with people everywhere! There’s not a whole lot to say about Venice, the most exciting things was just the water and the boats. The island doesn’t have any type of culture anymore, it Is all tourists and everything is devoted to tourism, so it just wasn’t that exciting.

We were terribly bored the 3rd day we were there, we actually took off to the airport early to set there and do nothing. But it was neat to see. We didn’t go into many churches or anything but we just looked around.
About 75% of the stores are devoted to Glass. The island of Murano is where Glass factories are located and tourists can go watch them make the glass and then buy it. And Glass has taken over the entire Venice Island, every other shop sells glass! It was all beautiful and awesome to see them make it! But it was super expensive!!!!!!!!!!! We took a boat out to the island and then spent the afternoon and came back, that was fun!

We wanted to try some real Italian Food so we went out twice to try a nice place. The first one I had a huge plate of spaghetti with mussels, clams, shrimp, crab, and squid! It was good, but expensive and small portions.  The next night we tried a place the Hotel Manager suggested for us and it was delicious! I had spaghetti with bacon and egg and cheese sauce and a glass of wine, then we all had a dessert, I had homemade pudding with chocolate sauce and it was super good!!!!!!!

We did eat a pastry or two out and about, and they are good, but NOTHING like German pastry’s!!!!
It was a beautiful place and I’m so glad I got to go there and see it, honestly I was impressed with how clean it was. Everyone told me it was kind of dirty and the water was nasty but it was very clean! Overall it was a blast! From Venice we took a plane back to Germany then a bus from the airport to Trier! We got back to our apartment about 2 am! We were exhausted! Still kind of are!!! But it was a trip of a lifetime!!!
